Greetings from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to school! I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer full of fun and relaxing activities and a wonderful Labor Day weekend. On behalf of the entire Imagine family, we are glad that returning families are back and we give a whole-hearted welcome to our new families.

The 2009-2010 school year has launched with huge success. As you can see, there are many changes here at Imagine Sierra Vista. In addition to all of the new faces amongst the staff, we have made the curriculum more challenging and added an athletic program. Curriculum night, a few weeks ago, was an evening full of information on how we will best meet the academic needs of our students. It is always a great pleasure opening up our doors to the community for an evening event.

Additionally, our PTO and Athletic Booster Club are working tirelessly to help our school coordinate volunteers, acquire sports equipment, art supplies, and other items that make our school successful. We thank both organizations for their time and efforts! Feel free to contact me with questions or comments.

We are expecting a fantastic year and are happy to have you as a part of our community.

Most Sincerely,

Dr. David J. Snyder

Imagine Schools National Standards-Based Curriculum

Imagine Schools Standards-Based Curriculum

At Imagine Schools, we have developed a curriculum that guides teachers and students toward the high level of learning expected in today’s world. This process is used every time lessons and assessments are planned. It describes the curriculum and, along with the Imagine Schools School Design Model, sets the parameters for teaching and learning in an effective classroom. The curriculum represents the best thinking of education professionals, as well as the input of business and community members as to the needs of students in a global society.

The curriculum is characterized by challenging academic standards that lead to high achievement for all students. Standards are clearly articulated at each grade level, building upon a solid content base in each academic subject. Students expand prior knowledge through a spiraled thematic curriculum, focusing on inquiry and project-based applications of key concepts and universal ideas. Instructional practices vary, ensuring that teachers meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles.

The curriculum provides students and teachers with world class learning opportunities, with a focus on the following:

· Learner centered results

· Authentic and challenging materials and activities

· Critical thinking and creative problem solving

· Technology as a learning tool

· A hands-on, minds-on approach to learning

· Personal and global perspectives

· Reflection and exchange of ideas

· Interdisciplinary thematic units

We believe that engaging students in a rigorous standards-based curriculum is essential to student achievement and success. The curriculum characteristics allow for flexibility, yet maintain high and appropriate expectations for all. At Imagine Schools, the curriculum ensures that students enjoy the moment, and learn for a lifetime.

Notes of Interest:
Imagine Schools at Sierra Vista PTO is proud to announce our partnership with TerraCycle. We are recycling juice pouches to be upcycled into affordable, high quality products. In exchange, we receive .02 for each pouch we send it. The company even pays for shipping! Help us earn money for Imagine, while minimizing waste from entering landfills. Please bag pouches separately from aluminum cans. Pouches and aluminum can both be dropped off next to the school trash receptacle, or placed in the designated container in the lunch room. Together we can make a difference!

Food City has upgraded its “Register Tapes for Education” to “For My School Program” Which means they have replaced receipt collecting with scanning you’re My School card at the register when you’re done checking out. Food City will donate 1% of your purchase to your school! (Some items not eligible) This program started September 1st , 2009 and ends April 30th, 2010. Food City will NOT accept any receipts. If you need additional cards for friends and family, please contact the school.

Target also has a program that donates 1% of purchases charged on your Target Card to our school. It is called “Take Charge of Education.” See store for details or call your Target Card customer service hotline located on the back of your Target Card.

Other items collected: “Box Tops for Education,” “Campbell’s Soup Labels, “ (The whole label please), and soda pop tabs. ** If you would like to participate in our aluminum can drive. We have a bin on the left of Imagine’s trash. Booster club is collecting plastic bags and Mr. Licence’s class will be collecting phonebooks.
